A Meridian Stress Assessment is a method for determining imbalances and dysfunction in the body – if food is causing you problems and what organs are stressed.
What is a Meridian Stress Assessment?
A Meridian Stress Assessment (MSA) or Biomeridian Stress Testing is a test, typically conducted by an Acupuncturist, in order to discover the following:
- Imbalances in the body.
- Which foods (and/or other substances) are causing a person to be sick.
- Which organs in the body are dysfunctional or stressed/overloaded.
- If a person is lacking certain vitamins and/or minerals.

Why would you want to have a Meridian Stress Assessment?
A Meridian Stress Assessment is helpful for those who need help discovering which foods are causing uncomfortable and/or painful symptoms. It is also great for those who may have difficulty doing an elimination diet. This test may also be a great alternative for those who simply do not want the hassle and frustration of an elimination diet. Perhaps an elimination diet is just not feasible. Does this sound like you?

How does a Meridian Stress Assessment work?
This type of testing works by measuring electrical energy in the body. This is done by assessing meridian points (acupuncture points) in the body. It is performed with a metal mechanism that is shaped kind of like a fat, rounded pen. This ‘pen’ is applied (by touch) to points on the hands and feet. It is completely safe, non-invasive and it is not at all painful. It’s quite a neat technique.
My experience with Meridian Stress Assessments
I have had a few Meridian Stress Assessments over the last few years. I have done elimination diets as well. I find elimination diets very helpful and I recommend them to people who are up for the challenge. However, personally I have not always been very good at being aware of my physical symptoms (unlike my husband, surprisingly). I have also had much difficulty determining which foods might have caused my symptoms.
If you can relate, I highly recommend a Meridian Stress Assessment. It takes all the guesswork out of trying to discern your symptoms and what foods may have caused them.
Meridian Stress Assessment versus an elimination diet
A Meridian Stress Assessment takes between 1/2 – 1 and 1/2 hours (your first appointment will take longer), whereas an elimination diet takes weeks. However, although elimination diets can be difficult and frustrating, they are free. A Meridian Stress Assessment can be expensive if you don’t have insurance. The initial (1 and 1/2 hr) appointment with my Acupuncturist is $175.
Wanna try your luck with an elimination diet instead?
Perhaps you are not interested in a Meridian Stress Assessment or you don’t have insurance and can’t afford it, etc. In that case, check out this post, where I guide you through an elimination diet. Good luck!
