How to boost your immune system naturally
With this pandemic going on right now, it’s more important than ever to know how to boost your immune system naturally so you can maintain your health and the health of your family.
The best way to protect yourself is to maintain your immune system and ensure your immune system is working as it should be.
How to increase immunity
To help you with that, I’m going to tell you how to increase immunity with these 10 tips for boosting your immune system.
1. Avoid smoking and drinking
The first thing you can do is you can avoid smoking, and of course that’s beneficial for many reasons other than just maintaining your immune system. Also limit the amount of alcohol you consume. The reason for this is because these two things, smoking and alcohol, can weaken your immune system.
2. Consume lots of fruit and veggies
You want to get as many fruits and vegetables into you as you can. You want to get as many nutrients as you can. Now it’s more important time than ever to eat healthy.
3. Load up on antioxidants
You want to increase your intake of antioxidants. Antioxidants are so helpful. Antioxidants help to fight off free radicals. Free radicals damage the cells in your body and weaken your immune system. So you want to fight off those free radicals and you can do that by increasing your intake of antioxidants.
4. Get enough vitamins
You want to make sure you’re getting enough of certain vitamins. The vitamins that are most important for your immune system and maintaining the health of your immune system are: vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin D and vitamin E.
Now, you don’t want to all of a sudden start to load your body with these vitamins. So you don’t want to go out and buy all kinds of vitamin supplements and start taking them. That can be dangerous. So please don’t do this. Check with your Doctor first. But you can just make sure you’re getting these vitamins in the form of food.
The best sources of vitamins come from foods, except for vitamin D (more on that in a minute). But the best sources of vitamin A are foods such as carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach and kale.
The best sources of vitamin B come from meat, poultry and fish. Some great sources of vitamin C come from citrus fruits – strawberries, broccoli, bell peppers and dark leafy greens.
The best source of vitamin D is sunshine. There’s not much to do right now so make sure you’re getting outside and getting some sunshine and some vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency is linked to increase susceptibility of infection. So you want to get out and just enjoy the sun. What else have you got to do these days anyway?
Some great sources of vitamin E are from almonds, spinach, swiss chard, bell peppers and asparagus.
5. Have a healthy gut
This is really important – this is probably the most important tip for you to take away from these tips. That is to have a healthy gut.
The reason this is important is because 70 to 80 percent of your immune system is in your gut. So you need to have a healthy gut in order to have a healthy immune system. One way to maintain the health of your gut is to take probiotics (actually the best source of probiotics is raw, unwashed and unpeeled fruits and veggies).
6. Get enough zinc
You want to make sure that you’re getting enough zinc. Many people are deficient in zinc and they don’t realize it. Especially people with skin issues and, as a side note, also B vitamins. If you have skin issues, you may be deficient in B vitamins. But zinc is directly related to the immune system. Zinc acts like an antioxidant as well. The best sources of zinc are from red meat, shellfish, seeds such as hemp seeds, sesame seeds and nuts such as pine nuts, cashews and almonds.
7. Avoid inflammatory foods
This is related to gut health. You want to avoid inflammatory foods such as dairy, sugar and processed foods. The reason for this is because you want to avoid inflammation. You want your immune system to be focused on maintaining your health so it doesn’t have to work extra hard to reduce the inflammation from the foods as well.
8. Get some exercise
You want to get some exercise. Moderate exercise helps to reduce inflammation and it may help to expel bacteria in your lungs as well.
9. Get enough sleep
You want to make sure you get enough sleep. Sleep is really important especially to help your body to recover and to defend against illnesses.
10. Manage your stress
You want to manage your stress. I know right now is really a very stressful time but you need to find a way to manage your stress and this is important for other things as well. If you have an autoimmune condition, stress can trigger those symptoms. The reason is that stress increases cortisol and cortisol suppresses the immune system. So you want to manage your stress.
