Hi there, welcome to my site! Let me introduce myself and explain what How to Detox Your Life is all about.
My name is Kenda. I am a mom, a social worker and a person who has always been passionate about helping others to live happy, healthy lives. Since developing many food intolerances over the last few years, I have learned a great deal about eating healthy, organic food and healing naturally. I have healed myself (with the help of my Naturopath, Acupuncturist and Physiotherapist) from eczema, pelvic pain and dysfunction and many digestive issues. I am more determined than ever to help you and your family do the same.
Where to start? Well I am going to be very candid and it may be a little embarrassing and may be (warning) too much information for some people….just a heads up. 😉
In 2010, after I had a cesarean, I began having stomach pain that felt like razor blades in my abdomen. Doctors could not ascertain what may be causing it. In addition to the stomach pain, I began to have numerous digestive issues (bloating, gas, constipation). I also had pelvic pain and dysfunction and occasional bladder infection-like symptoms (without having an infection). Plus, my eczema (that had been a mild inconvenience for as long as I can remember) was out of control.
I was unwilling to just live with the pain and also unwilling to take conventional medicine; I really dislike putting bandages on problems. That is what conventional medicine often does, so I avoid it whenever possible. I do, however, believe (for now at least) there is a time and place for conventional medicine.
Having said that, I began to do some research and I decided to remove troublesome foods from my diet and to make alternative medicine a part of my life. What a wonderful decision it was!
My Healing Journey
Long story short, one day in 2012-13, I was speaking with a co-worker about my issues and she referred me to her Acupuncturist. After a few appointments with this Acupuncturist, she discerned that I was intolerant to refined sugar, cow’s milk, lactose, yeast and wheat. So I was going to have to give up these foods. Oh boy (I thought), this is going to be a difficult journey. However, I really was completely unaware of the difficulty and frustration that was to come.
My Acupuncturist also discerned that I likely had a condition called Leaky Gut Syndrome, so she referred me to a Naturopath. My Naturopath asked me to do an elimination diet (to remove possible problem foods from my diet to discern exactly which foods were causing symptoms). She also put me on probiotics and she gave me an herbal remedy to help cure candida. I began eating only foods from the paleo diet (except for rice, corn and oats as I seem to do fine with these grains).
When I gave up the foods causing my symptoms and pain, I also lost a ton of weight! Well, not really a ton. 🙂 But specifically, when I gave up refined sugar, I lost 10 lbs. When I gave up wheat, I lost another 10 lbs. So, I lost a total of 20 lbs just by giving up foods that were making me sick anyway.
Giving up certain foods was a great challenge for me, but once I finally accepted this way of life (which took a long time), the digestive issues and eczema soon disappeared. Thank heavens, some relief!
But I still had pelvic pain and dysfunction. So, my Naturopath sent me to have a consultation with a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist. I had 4 appointments with the Physiotherapist and I learned some very helpful pelvic exercises. I ceased having pelvic pain. The pelvic dysfunction and bladder symptoms disappeared as well. I still have an occasional UTI but not often. HERE is how I cure it.
I occasionally experience setbacks (when I lack willpower ;)), but I feel sooo much better! I feel like a different person, a much healthier version of myself. About How to Detox Your Life
Since healing myself from all of these issues, I am always trying to educate people about eating better, healthy food and eliminating unnecessary medications and intrusive procedures. I am always encouraging people to eliminate foods from their diet that are making them sick, etc.
Eventually, I began to feel that I was preaching. I worried that some people may have been tired of hearing about it. So, I started a facebook page @ www.facebook.com/howtodetoxyourlife, but I felt like this was not enough. My facebook page was certainly was not a suitable platform to share recipes, etc. After a few months of managing my facebook page, I began this blog.
Through my blog, I hope to help others who have similar pain and discomfort. I want to help those who are frustrated because they are not getting the help and the relief they deserve. This website is also for those who are not comfortable with conventional medicine (and its array of nasty side effects) and for those who are simply interested in living a healthier life free of toxins.
